Bakgrund
Asoka bildades 1971. Bandet växte fram ur 60-talsgruppen “Taste of blues”.

Efter en kort men intensiv period bestående av turnerande och skivproduktion, inkluderande deras mycket eftersökta första album, (första albumet betingar priser på upp emot 3000:-) splittrades bandet. 2004 diskuterade tre av de ursprungliga medlemmarna, nu igen spelandes i ett bluesband, om de skulle återbilda Asoka. Vid denna tid, kom också Torsten Niklasson på July Morning rec AB, med förfrågan om de inte kunde tänka sig att starta upp igen. I så fall med ett första gig tillsammans med en hel radda andra svenska legendarer på kryssningen “ROCK AT SEA – SVENSKA HÖJDARE”. När två omständigheter pekar åt samma håll är det ingen tillfällighet, som Agent Cooper i Twin Peaks hade sagt. Sedan dess har Asoka vart igång igen. Nu har det lett till Asokas andra och tredje album, och July Mornings första två produktioner, “ASOKA – 36 years later” och “ASOKA SPELAR ALLAN”.

2013 drabbades ASOKA hårt då Daffy efter en tids sjukdom avled.

2014 har de tagit nya tag och Bronco Nyman med förflutet i bland annat “Pedalens pågar”, kompbandet till Kal P. Dal. är nu med på trummor.

Background of Asoka
Asoka was formed in 1971. Evolved out of the 60¹s group “Taste of blues”.
After a short but intensive period of touring and recordmaking, including their highly sought after first album, the members went separate ways and the group split up. In 2004, three of the original members rejoined, now in a blues band with no other ambitions than to have a nice time and make music together. In connection to a performance at a big music seacruise called ³Rock at Sea², together with other legendary Swedish rock groups, the idea of a rebirth of Asoka came up. Asoka was born again, this time including some new members. The three original members together with the two guitarists from the blues band and a new singer became the new ASOKA. Today, at the time of the making of this record, ASOKA consists of Tore (guitar, chorus), Falsterbosse (singing, percussion), Daffy (drums, percussion), Tjobbe (bass, chorus) and Clabbe ( Keyboard, chorus).

One of the original members wrote a lot of songs between 1979 and 1989 which were not recorded. These songs had a strong connection to the original Asoka concept and therefore it seemed natural to have these songs as a point of departure, a kind of skeleton that in certain aspects were modified and completed. Gradually the repertoire increased and in the summer of 2007 the group felt ready to show its new face on a record.

In 2013 Daffy sadly past away.
